The BBC have published a video about Castells in Catalonia. Building human towers is a long established tradition in our country and is currently under consideration to be declared “intangible human heritage” by the Unesco.
There are many different varieties of Castells and its difficulty is measured depending on how tall they are and the amount of columns of people that form it. The groups of people who make them are called “colles” and some of them have existed for centuries, like the “Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls” founded on 1801 (link in Catalan).
